VANCOUVER COMPETITION ATTRACTS WORLDS TOP FEMALE BREAKDANCER AND CREE HOOP DANCER

rt3_tix_logo.jpgVANCOUVER – Rhythm & Action Arts Society hosts RAW TALENT III – 2 on 2 breakdance competition on Friday January 25th at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre. The event is the third installation of the RAW TALENT series, held to showcase Vancouver and the west coast’s top breakdancers. The winning crew will walk away with $400 cash along with several prizes from event sponsors.

RAW TALENT III has invited Los Angeles based Lady Jules (Julie Urich), who reigns as the number one “b-girl” in the world after winning the Mighty4 International B-Girl Competition. She will judge the competition alongside local breakdancers, Jheric Hizon and Rory Rocket.

The significance of the event marks the fourth anniversary of Rhythm & Action Arts’ involvement with the Friendship Centre, where they began teaching breakdance to aboriginal youth in the underground parking lot of the centre. Since then, Rhythm & Action Arts (or RAW as they have become known) have produced several performance and competition events throughout the city that aim to find the common ground between cultures through music and movement. RAW TALENT III follows this formula by presenting Northern Cree dancer, PD Chalifoux, to launch the b-boy/ b-girl battle with a traditional hoop dance.

Other special guests include DJ Colione from LA, The Stunt Man, and Vancouver actor/ rapper Sean Amsing aka Kaboom Atomic as emcee. Sponsors, including Tigerstone Entertainment, Drive Dance Centre, Camobear Records and Vancity Skateboards have generously jumped in to provide door prizes.

The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre serves as social hub for Vancouver’s aboriginal community. This event will attract over 400 people from all over the Lower Mainland, from all different backgrounds, uniting for the common interest in high performance dance, in the spirit of competition.
